Sometimes you find yourself being lucky within the bad luck. I was coming back to Bali from a job in Austria. After a little pitstop at my good friend Adrian. I arrived super late to the Frankfurt airport just making my flight. Thanks to my legs. As I arrive in Doha I get to my gate where everything seems fine which after five minutes i realise its not. Flights cancelled due to Mt. Agung spewing ash back in Bali. I get put up with a hotel for the night and I spend the next 24 hours between the bed and the free buffet. Good times and a sweet rest.
The coming evening i get a phone call saying that i have to go to the airport and select a destination to go to, Bali not included. after a few minutes contemplating where to go I decide to just go and visit my good friends Petter and Linn who runs one of the best spots down in south Sri Lanka. Perfect spot to wait out the angry volcano.
After another super delayed flight and a taxi ride i arrive in Ahangama. A few coffees are had and a fun little afternoon log sesh is on the menu. I stay the night, wake up and go for a little morning splash and go for a little stroll with my camera. A couple of hours in i get some messages that the airport is open again. I check the surf forecast, see that a storm is brewing the same evening and next days are a mess. Time to go. I book a new ticket and a cab. As I’m leaving the storm hits and a few trees and flipped over cars appear as obstacles along the way. As a final little head ache to this out drawn homecoming, my flight is delayed 3.5 hours and i just make my connecting flight in KL back to Bali.
This was definitely a nerve and patience tester of a trip. But how often do you get a little unplanned pitstop with three surfs and good food in Sri Lanka for thirty hours?”
